Common Sense Environmental, Inc. celebrated its 10-year anniversary in March 2009 and has opened an office at 105 William Street, Suite 22, New Bedford.  Founded by President Cynthia Gilchrest, Common Sense Environmental received recognition from the New Bedford Chamber of Commerce as a nominee and finalist for the Small Business of the Year Award in 2007.

 

 Common Sense provides comprehensive environmental evaluations of industrial, commercial and residential properties. Services include drinking water sampling, groundwater sampling, industrial compliance, Spill Prevention, Countermeasures and Control Plans (SPCC), AAI-compliant Phase I assessments, Subsurface Investigations and Remediation Services, Storage Tank Management comprehensive subsurface investigations, UST removal, hazardous waste and materials management, Tier II audits and submittals, and employee training.  The staff has extensive experience with federal, state, and local agencies to ensure compliance with CERCLA, NEPA, and RCRA regulations with a focus on the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP), also known as 21E. Common Sense Environmental excels at educating clients of critical regulatory elements relative to environmental activities. Further, Common Sense also provides Licensed Site Professional (LSP) services.

 

 Common Sense is certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) through the Commonwealth of  Massachusetts State Office of Minority and Women Business Assistance (SOMBA) in addition to Small Business Administration (SBA).  Common Sense is listed in the Massachusetts Central Register as a DBE Certified Business Listing of eligible firms for federal-aid transposition projects. Further, Common Sense is also certified by the State of Rhode Island and the City of Boston as a Woman-owned Business Enterprise (WBE).

 

 Common Sense is a member of the Fall River and New Bedford Chambers of Commerce, Massachusetts Marine Trade Association (MMTA), Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Rhode Island Society of Environmental Professionals (RISEP) and the Licensed Site Professional Association (LSPA).
